Chalumeau - Pocket Clarinet is pitched in F at A=415 Hz, it has Baroque fingering with 2-keys to play throat notes as The Chalumeau - Pocket Clarinet doesn’t play in the upper “Clarion” register.

This is a reproduction of an original by Stuehnwal from 1730 (Bayerische National Museum in Munich), cited in many older books as "the first clarinet", before we became more conscious of the chalumeau as a distinct instrument.

It only plays in the fundamental harmonic range, which is the lower register of the clarinet; this is why players refer to the lower register of the clarinet as the “chalumeau register".

The Chalumeau doesn’t play in the upper “Clarion” register, so the speaker/register key is only to play throat notes to play “A” and “Bb”, by holding them together you get B natural. As it only plays in the fundamental range, it has low sound, limited range of notes, just over an octave.

For that reason, 18th-century-early composers have written music for it.
Composers: Vivaldi - Telemann - Graupner - Molter - Bononcini.

This Chalumeau is made of Indian Cocobolo wood and comes equipped with a standard Bb Clarinet mouthpiece cut to the required length, ligature, two reeds, cleaning cloth, and a wooden case.
