Northumbrian Smallpipes - 9 Key Chanter in F - African Blackwood

The Northumbrian Smallpipes are a melodious, bellows blown bagpipe.  They are softly spoken in comparison with other bagpipes and are normally played indoors.

The chanter has a closed bore, enabling a staccato style of playing that gives them the unique "bubbling" sound for which they have become famous, Chanter has 9 keys to give the usual 7-key range plus F naturals and G sharps in both octaves (using G as the tonic reference.)

Northumbrian bagpipe music is written in the key of "G" although the instruments in reality are pitched in "F"; in other words you play the written fingering for "G" and you get an "F".

Sets can be special ordered that play in "D".

Set listed are made of Blackwood with Nickle Fitting and imitation ivory mounts. These sets are in G (really F), made on David Burleigh Plans.

Comes with Chanter reed only, You will need to buy Drone Reeds separately from Kim Bull, please email us after purchase and will let you know the buy it now link.
