• Mozart's Basset Clarinet in A (La)

This basset clarinet in A was the instrument Mozart originally had in mind when Mozart wrote the famous Concerto for Clarinet and Orchestra, K622 (1791). It is also to perform Mozart's the Quintet for Clarinet and Strings, K581 (1789), as well as several other works written for the basset clarinet from various composers.

Drawing inspiration from the craftsmanship of Theodor Lotz (1746–92), a renowned Viennese maker who crafted clarinets for Anton Stadler, Mozart's virtuoso clarinet player, this basset clarinet extends its range to include low chromatic notes down to middle C with 4 thumb keys. Its key system evokes the design of the early 5-key clarinet.

It features a speaker key, A key, Eb key, C# key, E key, and F# key for the left hand, along with the B key, Bb key, and Ab key for the right hand.

  • Crafted from Indian Cocobolo wood with imitation Ivory protection rings, the body of the clarinet boasts durability and aesthetic appeal. The keys are casted from brass, steel springs with best suitable pads.
  • Equipped with two barrels for A440 and A430 tuning.
  • It is designed to be used with a standard Bb clarinet mouthpiece. The barrel receiver is tailored for modern Bb mouthpieces, including the Vandoren B40 and B45.
  • Additionally, accessories such as a plush lined protective case, extra set of pads, cleaning cloth, and a carrying strap are provided.
