Drawing inspiration from the craftsmanship of Theodor Lotz (1746–92), a renowned Viennese maker of clarinets for Anton Stadler, Mozart's virtuoso clarinet player, we have designed this basset horn based on the sketch found of Anton Stadler's concert program in Riga of 1794.

  • Tuned in A=440hz with extra barrel for A=442hz
  • Crafted from Indian Cocobolo wood, protected by imitation Ivory rings.
  • The keys are casted from brass in original brass finish, steel springs with best suitable leather pads.
  • It is designed to be used with a standard Bb clarinet mouthpiece. The barrel receiver is tailored for modern Bb mouthpieces, including the Vandoren B45.
  • Additionally, accessories such as a plush lined protective case, extra set of pads, cleaning cloth.

The basset horn, renowned for its rich sound, is exceptionally versatile instrument. When Mozart first encountered the tone of the basset horn, it became one of his favorite instruments. He incorporated it into almost all of his compositions and even wrote specific music for it.

Beyond Mozart's celebrated work, other composers including Beethoven wrote for it. Moreover, Richard Strauss played a pivotal role in reviving interest in the instrument and reintroducing it to orchestral settings towards the end of the 19th century and into the 20th century.
